  • Manager - Portfolio Accounting

  • The Manager - Portfolio Accounting is responsible for supervising staff and senior accountants. The team is responsible for preparing, analyzing, and reporting the financial and operating results of portfolio companies and stand-alone investments, including the preparation of the following: consolidated GAAP financial statements, cash flow forecasts, lender reporting and draw packages, monthly reporting package to senior management, supporting schedules to general ledger accounts, variance analysis for income statement accounts, and annual audited financial statements.

    As the Manager - Portfolio Accounting, one is held accountable to, however, not limited to the following job functions:

    • Reviews preparation of consolidated GAAP financial statements.
    • Reviews consolidating, inter-company elimination, and non-controlling interest journal entries.
    • Reviews the preparation of monthly account analysis and roll-forwards of selected general ledger accounts to ensure accounts properly reflect the Company’s financial position in accordance with company policy and GAAP.
    • Reviews monthly variance analysis with accounting staff to resolve accounting-related issues and to ensure that revenues and expenses are correctly reported and classified in accordance with GAAP and company policy.
    • Review of property-level financial results to ensure results properly reflect the company’s financial position and are in accordance with GAAP.
    • Reviews monthly financial package sent to senior management, which summarizes key financial and operating highlights and compares actual vs. budget and forecast results.
    • Reviews monthly cash flow forecasts for portfolio companies and stand-alone investments.
    • Reviews monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages sent to lenders.
    • Reviews lender draw packages.
    • Review the preparation of debt covenant calculations.
    • Review accounts receivable aging reports follow up on past due accounts and determine appropriate reserves.
    • Reviews bank reconciliations.
    • Coordinates and reviews the annual audited financial statements, including footnote disclosures and supporting schedules.
    • Respond to audit inquiries from accounting firms. Review supporting schedules for annual audit.
    • Review acquisition accounting entries for new properties acquired. Obtain and review all relevant acquisition closing documents to ensure the opening entries recorded reconcile to the executed closing documents and other support. Coordinate with Blackstone to ensure the completeness of the entries recorded. Finalize prorations with Seller.
    • Review purchase price allocation entries for new properties acquired; summarize and document the methodologies, assumptions and overall approach to testing the purchase price allocation. Coordinate with third party valuation firms assisting with the purchase price allocation estimates; test key inputs used in the purchase price allocation estimates.
    • Review disposition accounting entries for recently disposed properties. Obtain and review all relevant acquisition closing documents to ensure the disposition entries recorded reconcile to the executed closing documents and other support. Coordinate with Blackstone to ensure the completeness of the entries recorded. Finalize prorations with Buyer.
    • GAAP Research – Define and establish proper GAAP reporting as appropriate for new and existing business activities. Determine accounting treatment for complex transactions including acquisitions and dispositions of properties.
    • Assist in preparation of annual budget.
    • Responds to questions and requests from management. Supplies ad hoc analysis to management.
    • Performs duties normally associated with a supervisory position such as hiring, providing training and assistance, reviewing work and conducting performance and salary reviews.
    • Assist in the establishing and maintaining of a control environment which complies with Sarbanes-Oxley. 

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting along with six to ten years of general accounting experience. 
    • Strong managerial skills required with two or more years supervisory experience.
    • Excellent communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills necessary.
    • Must be a motivated self-starter with strong team leadership and problem-solving skills, the aptitude to think independently, and the motivation to work with a team in a rapidly changing environment.
    • Must have knowledge of US GAAP; SOX compliance and SEC reporting. 
    • Ability to multi-task and manage shifting priorities and deadlines, with attention to detail and an ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Strong computer skills required including the working knowledge of general ledger accounting systems, Microsoft Word and Excel.
    • Preferred Qualifications: Real estate accounting. 
    • CPA certification.
