Why This Role Is Valuable  

The AVP, Complex Claims role is within Revantage’s Risk group with a specific focus on large property claim preparation and analysis within Gryphon Mutual. Gryphon is Blackstone Real Estate’s captive insurance company.

The role is focused on large property claims, including the preparation of claims information from multiple stakeholders including Revantage, Blackstone, Gryphon, and Blackstone’s portfolio companies. The role has exposure to both the insurance and real estate sectors. The primary deliverables will be the creation and management of claims-related information (collecting invoices, creating advanced claim schedules) and decision-making outputs for review by senior executives at Revantage, Aon, and Blackstone. This position is based out of Revantage’s headquarters in Chicago, IL.

How You Add Value

  • Mitigate losses, control expenses, and negotiate settlements on our company’s largest property losses
  • Ensure regular and timely follow-up and bring claims to prompt and appropriate conclusions while keeping the customer informed throughout the claims process
  • Evaluate and support insured property claims and high exposure property claims in conjunction with Claims and Legal department via the use and management of Origami (internal RMIS system)
  • Utilize arbitration, appraisal, and alternate dispute resolution as needed
  • Review appropriate policies and endorsements for coverage, limits, and deductibles
  • Facilitate property claim reviews and provide risk and insurance team (or others) with ad hoc analyses of claims reporting and tracking to be communicated to portfolio company stakeholders
  • Lead large property losses for the department – determines when to pull in experts (industrial hygienist, building consultant, engineers, etc.) and schedules and leads meetings
  • Work with high authority limits on assignments, reflecting a high degree of technical complexion and coordination
  • Analyze summarizes and presents complex claims data to insurers and other stakeholders
  • Track claim reconstruction progress and create project timeline documents
  • Communicate important updates to key stakeholders in the forms of reports, schedules, and document collections
  • Schedule meetings with property and construction teams, outlines strategies, and plan forward
  • Strategize on complex losses with assistance from Claims, and Insurance counsel
  • Coordinate advance insurance payments with adjusters and internal treasury and accounting teams
  • Manage and maintain our emergency service vendors’ and other key vendors’ Master Service Agreements (MSAs) with the internal legal team

What You Bring To The Role


  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Accounting, (Computational/Quantitative) Finance, Economics or related field required
  • Minimum 10 years insurance, risk, or adjusting experience
  • Demonstrable and current in-depth knowledge and understanding of the real estate industry
  • First-class interpersonal skills, including relationship building and maintenance
  • Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Possesses a high and extensive level of technical knowledge and skills, including product and industry
  • Excellent communication (verbal & written), numerical, presentation & organizational skills
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where superior time-management and prioritization skills are essential


  • Relevant professional designation (e.g. CPCU, ARM)
  • Juris Doctorate
